Andersonville Real Estate By Paul Royer XML

Andersonville real estate lies in Chicago’s prestigious Edgewater community in North Chicago, about five miles from the downtown Loop and very near Lake Michigan. Andersonville is today one of Chicago’s most popular neighborhoods due to its quiet, hometown atmosphere and green, leafy streets. Real estate options include traditional single family homes and two-flats. Many homes here are considered landmarks, having been unchanged since they were first built in the 1920’s. Rent is very affordable, especially for such a beautiful neighborhood.

Andersonville was once a village comprised of Swedish immigrants, and its Swedish roots can still be seen around the neighborhood. Many shopkeepers still speak Swedish, and the neighborhood is home to Chicago’s favorite Swedish restaurant, Ann Sather. Andersonville is also known for its unique commercial district, which consists of mainly locally owned businesses, such as restaurants, taverns, and independent shops. Also many bookstores, experimental theaters, cafés and galleries are present. The renowned Swedish American Museum stands at the heart of Andersonville, containing various exhibits of Swedish history and art from prominent Swedish American artists. It also contains a Children’s Museum of Immigration, teaching children of the journey from Sweden to America.

Not far from Lake Michigan, Andersonville residents can take part in many water and beach activities in a short stroll. The short drive to downtown is also convenient, as the Loop holds many possibilities for entertainment.

Andersonville is a convenient location to raise a family, as some of Chicago’s finest theater, film, dance, visual arts, and music schools which cater to children are located here. Also, both public and private schools are not scarce in the neighborhood.
