Aurora, is located in three counties in Illinois; Will, Kendall and Dupage, and is known as the "City of Lights". Aurora is now the third largest city in Illinois, and boasts a population of over 143,000 residents. This city is one of the finest places to live of any in the Chicago area. The city is rich in history. The City's name of Aurora was taken from the 'Northern Lights' which were sparkling bright in the sky during the 1800's. It originally consisted of the towns of McCarty Mills and of Hartford. These became Aurora and West Aurora.
